Hawaii

A couple weeks back we went on a Tate family trip to Hawaii with Dustin's side of the family. Honestly, I think the end of January is the best time to get out of Utah; especially to somewhere warm. Although I was quite nervous about a 7 hour flight with Tay and the fact that she would be sleeping for a week not in her own crib stressed me out, but it turned out great... except for one big reality check. After being married to Dustin for 6 years and travelling all over before Tay came into our lives, "vacationing" takes on a different meaning with Tay. I wouldn't trade it for the world, but it's not the same when I come back with a little to no tan, no books read, no great restaurants visited. BUT, (yes I know poor me) I did come back with some pretty special memories that I wouldn't trade for the world. It was just another reminder that kids really do change everything!

We were able to be a bit self-indulgent for a few hours and went scuba diving and left Taylor with Grandma TT. Probably one of the best scuba diving trips I have ever been on because we saw frog fish, eagle rays, a ship wreck, octopuses, eels, Sea Turtles, 6 white-tailed reef sharks, Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins and some Alaskan Humpback Whales. There was just one downfall... Dustin almost died. Well, maybe that is exaggerating a bit, but we had a scare. Although Dustin is far more advanced than me, he has always had some issues with his sinuses so after ascending from our 98 foot dive, he had a "reverse squeeze". In other words the air wasn't letting out of his sinuses which caused him to almost blackout and have a bit of a panic attack underwater. But he was absolutely amazing and handled it a million times better than I would have. It's just a bit scary when you look over at your husband and he is engulfed in bubbles because he is breathing so hard and you know something is wrong, but there's not too much I could do. We had an awesome instructor and amazingly, it all worked out. He even went on the second dive which shows how amazing he is!

But Taylor had a blast! We tried to keep her out of the sun as much as we could, but the last day she spent most of the day in the water. We should have done that every day, because it was impossible to get her out. She loved it!

We stayed in Ko Olina on Oahu and we were able to hit all of the hot spots. One of our favorites in North Shore and we took the scenic way up with my sister in law, Savanna as our fabulous tour guide. Which of course meant we had to hit the shrimp trucks and the famous shaved ice with ice cream in Hailewa. We did the flea market, went whale watching, went to the USS Arizona and just had a blast!

Grandma TT spoiled her granddaughters of course, with some hula outfits. Here she is with Mia. Even at the hotel somebody asked if the two of them were sisters... hysterical!

Our hula girl

Tate, Bryson, Allie, Tay, Mia and Bo. Of course the one day Taylor was not cooperative!

Tay not really cooperating for the family pic... this was the best of about 10 takes.

Dustin's awesome photography skills.

A Dustin original :)

Dustin loves all of his nieces and nephews, but he is having so much fun with the nephews right now and they absolutely adore him. Bryson followed him around wanting to eat next to him all week long. It was adorable. One night, things were getting a bit crazy so to calm things down a bit, Dustin decided to introduce the boys to Sumo Wrestling. Tate of course knew that those were the guys who fought in diapers. So after the competition started, Tate decided to strip down to his undies to get the full effect...

All in all it was a wonderful trip and we are so thankful to Dustin's parents for putting this all together! I did manage to lose her favorite dolphin that she sleeps with every night, but at least she didn't come back with a sunburn. And she does seem to be surviving without the dolphin (it's a miracle).
